Transmission Service Options
- Fluid Drain and Fill: We empty the old fluid from the system and replace it with new fluid.
- Manual Transmission Fluid Change: Like for automatic transmission, we drain the old manual transmission fluid and replace it with new fluid.
- Automatic Transmission Fluid Exchange: A little different from the basic service, this service not only drains and refills your automatic fluid transmission, but it also replaces the old fluid with new, and it adds some fresh fluid additives to improve transmission performance.
- Fluid Exchange Plus Filter Replacement: We perform the recommended fluid exchange, draining the old fluid and replacing it with new fluid, but we also add a new pan gasket and filter.
Why Does Transmission Service Matter?
The transmission is a complex system with several gears powered by the engine’s flywheel. The transmission moves between gear sets to increase or decrease the speed and torque output on your wheels. This switch from gear set to gear set is how we shift gears. If you have an automatic transmission, this process takes place without driver input. With manual transmissions, the driver uses a clutch and switches between gears. Other types of transmission include Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT), automated manuals, and toroidal, among others. Your transmission is how your vehicle goes anywhere, so it is important that regular transmission services are performed to keep the system functioning the way it should.
It doesn’t matter whether you drive a vehicle with automatic or manual transmission. Both require regular maintenance and regular inspections to ensure they function correctly. Transmission fluid is especially important in automatic transmissions because it is needed not only to lubricate and keep the transmission cool, but it also serves as a fluid to increase hydraulic pressure so the gears will shift automatically.
How Often Do I Need Transmission Service?
As with any service, it depends on the make, the model, the model year, the quality of the parts, driving patterns and habits, the environment you are driving in and so on. Your owner’s manual has your best guidelines to follow since it is the manufacturer that recommends the maintenance intervals to keep your vehicle working efficiently.
